Meeting Graduation Requirements

Meeting Graduation Requirements

Class of 2020

We know that one of the big concerns seniors have right now is earning all the credits you need to graduate this spring. Our priority is ensuring that you graduate on time in June.

Credits Toward Graduation

Just as when our school buildings are open, your counselor is here to help you. Counselors will work directly with seniors and families to make sure you have every opportunity to meet graduation requirements.

State law and district policy allow some flexibility on credits due to this unprecedented disruption to school. We will use that flexibility, when necessary, to ensure that students who were on track to graduate are not denied a diploma due to events related to Coronavirus.

High school counselors are going through each senior’s transcript to determine their graduation status and determine what steps you need to take to meet graduation requirements. Expect a call or email from your counselor to discuss this with you.

Academic Support

You must continue to complete credits via distance learning. You will receive the following support:

  • Weekly communication to students/families by teachers and school administration
  • Weekly assignments by classroom teachers
  • Weekly support/feedback on your work

Grading

Grades for nearly every course will be Pass or No Credit. Universities and other programs across the country have made it clear that students will not be penalized for missing traditional standardized tests or for posting pass/no credit transcripts for this semester.

Extenuating Circumstances & Judgment

There will always be areas where teachers will need to make judgments about the extent to which standards have been met and credit earned. When extenuating circumstances prevent a student from completing a typical standard level of work, school-based staff should consider whether there has been significant enough learning to earn credit.
