We are pleased to announce a new leader for Big Picture. With the help of feedback from families, students and staff, Jeff Petty has been selected to serve as the new principal.
After an earlier career as a mountaineering instructor, Mr. Petty has worked for more than 20 years as a public high school teacher and administrator. In 2005, he founded Highline Big Picture High School and served as its principal and co-principal for eight years. Mr. Petty then transitioned to his current role as northwest regional director for Big Picture Learning, where he oversees a growing regional network of nearly 30 schools, including many he helped develop.
Mr. Petty holds a BA in Biology from Princeton University, an MEd from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a principal credential from the University of Washington. Notwithstanding his calm demeanor and how much he loves this work, Mr. Petty is fundamentally motivated by anger at systemic inequities, especially those perpetuated by schools. He is thrilled to be returning to Highline Big Picture, his favorite school!
Mr. Petty will begin his new role on July 1. We will work closely with him to plan the leadership transition.
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on this process. We are excited to welcome Jeff Petty to his new role.
